Meet Will
Greetings! I’m Will Cole and I currently work in the athletic department at Duke University. Being born into a family of educators, I believe in the importance of a solid, foundational level of education. I have 7 critical years of experience of teaching high school math at a public high school in Durham that was instrumental in my philosophy of teaching and my dedication to being a life-long teacher and a life-long student.
I had a blast attending the University of Mississippi for my BS degree in mathematics. While there, I took the opportunity to explore as many avenues as possible. The experience I had with playing collegiate football, being in the student body government, tutoring, and meeting and interacting with people from all walks has been just as vital as my formal education. After graduation from Ole Miss, I attended Duke University for my MAT (Masters in the Arts of Teaching) in mathematics.
My quest to become a teacher started when I stumbled across a quote by S. Gudder that read, “The essence of mathematics is not to make simple things complicated, but to make complicated things simple.” This has been my quest in life, to not only know information but to find a way to share it in a way others can receive. I find myself feeling the most satisfied when thinking about how I’m serving others. What I demand from myself, I demand from students and peers alike. To simply read critically, write consciously, think clearly, and speak your truth. There are times we lose sight of the big picture but the purpose of education has always been to enable others to become their own critical, independent thinkers who can express themselves and their thoughts through both written and the spoken language.
