Meet Camden

Hello! I’m Camden Cook. I have been a teacher and tutor for over 30 years and am delighted to be working with new teachers and students at Engaged Minds. For much of my career I was a middle school language arts and social studies teacher where I taught students with many diverse abilities and special needs. I also had the opportunity to teach English as a Second Language in Japan for several years. I currently am a tutor, both in person and online. I have enjoyed the opportunity to teach a broad range of students, from adults to one-year old English language learners.

In my years as a classroom teacher, I implemented different North Carolina state curriculums, helping to prepare students for both state testing and lifelong learning skills. As a reading teacher and tutor, I have used my experience and training in the Wilson method, literary coaching, and Hill Rap to create individual curriculums for each of my students. I have also worked with students in both the classroom and individually on creating habits for time management and organizing skills; so often students struggle with school and life because they cannot find the materials they need or waited until the last minute to do everything! I feel especially lucky to be able to work with students in small or individual classes.

I have lived most of my life in Chapel Hill. After attending University of Massachusetts for my undergraduate degree and living in Japan for several years, I returned to get my masters degree from UNC-Chapel Hill. Despite my love of the town and area, I am actually a proud Duke fan! I live with my partner (luckily, he is also a Duke fan!), our dog, and two cats.
