Meet Kelia
I’m Kelia! I am an experienced educator, currently serving as a Middle School EC Teacher for the Central Park School for Children. I have seven years of classroom teaching in both public and private schools. I also have experience teaching and tutoring virtually.
I attended Elon University for my undergraduate education where I received a degree in history. I then attended Clark Atlanta University and earned a Master’s Degree in African American Studies, which is where I fell in love with teaching. I also attended East Carolina University’s Teacher Residency Program.
I have a passion for, and extensive experience working with, neurodiverse students. I truly enjoy working with kids one-on-one to help them unlock their full potential and help to build up their confidence. I also love partnering with parents and acting as a resource as they navigate their child’s education.
I am extremely passionate about diversity and equity, and center it in my teaching. People sometimes forget that neurodiversity is diversity, and educational spaces need to work hard to be just as inclusive in that area.
I live in Durham with husband and my two children. Teaching my daughter to read really opened my eyes to the power of phonics. I have had the joy of witnessing my son being taught phonics at school, and the positive impact it’s had on his brain as he discovers a joy for reading. I also know the complexities that come along with securing tutoring, ensuring your child has all the supports in place to be successful. I look forward to being a source of support for your child!
