Meet Ellen
I am from a family of teachers, mostly in special education and science. I have been teaching literacy and language arts for 11 years in elementary, middle, and high school. Most of my experience lies with neurodivergent populations, especially students with dyslexia, ADHD, autism, and executive functioning struggles.
I went to the University of Georgia and majored in psychology and English education. I am currently enrolled in UNCC's graduate certificate program in special education. I have training in Lindamood-Bell learning process programs which address learning gaps in phonics, decoding, and comprehension for all student levels. I also have worked extensively with Heggerty and Orton-Gillingham inspired programs.
Currently, I am a reading interventionist in a Durham County public charter school. I live in Durham with my two teenagers, husband, two dogs, cat, and backyard chickens. I love helping students find success in reading and life skills and look forward to working with your child!
