Meet Janeia
I’m Janeia and I am a first grade teacher at Duke School in Durham. I have 13 years of classroom teaching experience teaching in both public and private schools. I also have 10 years of experience as a K-5 literacy coach and interventionist.
I attended UNC-Chapel Hill for my undergraduate education where I received a degree in psychology. I then attended North Carolina Central University and earned a degree in elementary education. In addition, I have a master’s degree in executive leadership from Gardner-Webb University.
My experience as a literacy coach and teacher has developed a passion and personal commitment to three things: fostering a positive learning environment for individuals from various background, maximizing individual performance, and developing one’s lifelong passion for learning. For many years I have worked with students with various learning needs and abilities. I thoroughly enjoy working with students one-on-one and watching them progress. Working with students in an individual setting provides the opportunity to build strong relationships and more time to examine their exact needs. I believe it is important to work in partnership with parents in order to support student progress.
I live in Cary with my husband and my three children: Alyssa 10, Nicholas 15, and Xavier 19. Our oldest child is currently a student at UNC-Charlotte. In their preschool years, I began teaching children phonics which helped them tremendously when they started elementary school. I continued to use my expertise to support them academically throughout their elementary school years. As a parent, I understand how challenging it can be to support your child at home and help them with their educational needs. I hope to be a source of support for you and your child.
