Meet Molly
My name is Molly Nelson and I have experience teaching all ages of students in traditional and nontraditional schools, as well as homeschooling my children during their elementary school years. Our family has lived in Raleigh, North Carolina for the last seven years and love it. My husband is originally from North Carolina and I am from California. We have moved many times and we are thrilled to be settled in North Carolina. Our two eldest daughters are now in college at NC State and UNC Chapel Hill and our youngest is in high school.
I enjoy teaching foreign languages and have developed a passion for helping neurodivergent learners, in all subject areas, through teaching my own children. The eldest of my three children has dysgraphia, dyscalculia, ADD, and very mild dyspraxia. The other two are diagnosed with ADD. The most important lesson from my daughters has been that the neurodivergent thinker can flourish with the right kind of teaching and methodology. I have found poor executive functioning and organizational skills go hand-in-hand with many learning challenges and have worked with my kids and other students in these areas as well.
Regarding supporting students with exam preparation, I’m experienced at organizing and structuring study plans for the SAT and ACT. Each plan is individualized and targeted towards the specific student’s needs. I can help a student be successful studying for the entirety of the test, and have particular expertise in the verbal sections.
I have my undergraduate and graduate degrees in Spanish language and literature, and have studied advanced Italian and Latin as well. My love of languages has guided much of my academic journey and the study of linguistics and grammar in multiple languages has provided an excellent framework for teaching the foundations of language comprehension. I look forward to working with students to help them navigate academic challenges and develop the confidence to be successful.
